Labour MEP Miriam Dalli called on the EU to set up joint asylum application programmes between the European member states to allow for appropriate sharing of responsibility with irregular immigration.

Dalli appealed in the European Parliament, where a discussion about the development of the European Asylum Support Office is ongoing. This office is based in Malta and is responsible for easing the pressure of countries' asylum systems.

Dalli also told the European Parliament that the EU must fight human traffickers and not only speak about them after tragedies have occured.
