KNPD takes exception to MUT comments on students with disabilities
In a press statement, the KNPD pointed out that the education system has ben plagued with logistical and technical difficulties, neither of which were caused by students
The National Commission for Persons with Disability (KNPD) has expressed its disappointment in comments made to imply that students with a disability are a burden to the education system.
In a press statement, the KNPD noted that Kevin Bonello, president of the Malta Union of Teachers, said that inclusive education is a ‘ headache’ but that it works in ‘the majority of cases’. The media also reported Bonnici saying that students with a disability were holding their classmates back.
The KNPD, the statement reads, feels that these comments are wrong to blame such students when the current education system, in place since 1994, has encountered logistical and technical difficulties that students certainly did not cause.
The statement continues to thank Bonnici and the MUT for their work in bettering the education system but to, in future, avoid such comments.
