Maltese language newspaper is online at Illum.com.mt

New website will provide news, gossip and satire in Maltese for its online audience

Maltese-language newspaper Illum has launched its news website at www.illum.com.mt, which will host the Sunday newspapers unique news and reports.

Mediatoday managing editor Saviour Balzan, who publishes the newspaper, said the new online offering was an inevitable development for the print media.

“Illum has been around as a Sunday newspaper for over eight years. It has come a long way and attracts a specific readership. It has filled a very important niche in independent journalism in Maltese. We are now going to the next stage, and that is online news in Maltese.

“This is an exciting time for MediaToday, with MaltaToday as Malta’s second most popular website and the launching of www.gourmettoday.recipes, we believe we are offering a very good service for our audience.”

Balzan said that Illum has jealously guarded its editorial line with a separate news team from MaltaToday, which is published by Mediatoday.

“Illum has always had a different audience, and the website will follow the same approach. We will follow off-diary stories and get the gossip out there, introduce satire to our news offering, and serve a growing number of readers who want to get their news in Maltese.”

The Illum team is led by Frederick Attard as editor, supported by a team of journalists which include Jean Pierre Cassar and veteran journalists John Busuttil and John Pisani.

The site is also offering subscription to the digital version of the newspaper.
