Transport Malta charges government €92,000 for seven months of bus inspections

New air conditioning system for buses hired from private companies

Transport Malta charged Malta Public Transport a total of €92,125 for the bus inspections that were carried out between January and July this year, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said.

“Transport Malta is focusing its attention and resources on measuring the punctuality and reliability of buses on a regular basis,” Mizzi said in response to a parliamentary question aired by Opposition transport spokesman Tony Bezzina.

Separately, Mizzi said that Transport Malta have added a new air conditioning system for buses that they hired from private companies. This complemented the two air conditioning systems that were already present in 23 other hired buses. Transport Malta charged the private companies themselves to have an air conditioning system installed in their buses.

“Between 13 July and 5 October, 152 temperature measurements were taken on hired buses,” Mizzi said. “The results varied between 21.6 and 36.3 degrees celcius. The highest temperatures were due to damage in the buses’ air conditioning system.”
