Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna to run Church administration
Scicluna, a former Vatican prosecutor, has been appointed as administrator of the Maltese church pending Pope Francis's acceptance of Paul Cremona's resignation as archbishop
Newsbook.com.mt, the Maltese Church's website, said that Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna will be running the Curia as administrator, until a new archbishop is appointed, after Mgr Paul Cremona was reported to have asked the Vatican to accept his resignation.
Newsbook cited Vatican sources, saying that a successor for Cremona would be appointed once the Pope accepts his resignation.
Scicluna, appointed auxiliary bishop in 2012 after serving in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican under Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, and later as Pope Benedict XVI's main prosecutor on priestly sex abuse, will be running the Curia's administration.
