Fireworks factories forewarned of safety inspections
Illum newspaper reveals that safety breaches can never be detected when inspectors inform fireworks factory owners of forthcoming safety check.
Every inspection in Malta’s and Gozo’s fireworks factory by government inspectors is being carried out with some defeated purpose: factory owners are being forewarned of inspections.
Illum newspaper today reports government statements that inspections cannot be carried out ‘by surprise’ because the law prohibits people entering the factories, unless they carry a licence A production permit, or – if they are licence B holders – be accompanied by licence A holders.
The revelation seems to indicate that the four government inspectors who surveyed some 39 factories every year, are not licensed to carry out surprise inspections.
