The Marsalforn harbour area will get a facelift, making it safer and more efficient, through EU funding.

Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo and parliamentary secretary for EU funds Ian Borg announced the project earlier today.

Borg said that the upgrade will be possible thanks to an allocation of funds from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2007-2013, of almost €800,000.

The works will include an upgrade to the breakwater, reconstruction of the slipway, the restoration and conservation of existing buildings, repair of the pier and the installation of services in the area and the replacement of winch equipment.

Refalo said that the project would ensure the survival and development of the artisanal fishing community in Marsalforn. He committed himself to supporting the small community that practices Gozo’s oldest trades.
