Transport Malta today said that works on the Pieta Bus Priority Project, a major headache for motorists in the last few weeks, are continuing at night “when possible.”

The authority said works have progressed and are entering “a particularly sensitive stage due to the nature of the works that need to be carried out.”

It added that “in a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and avoid temporary road closures during peak hours, when possible, road works at this project are continuing at night.”

Following normal day works, contractors are resuming road works after 8pm and continue until the early hours of the following morning.

Such a measure is aimed at alleviating traffic congestions and disruptions during particular phases of the works such as asphalting, which works necessitate partial road closure. Lower traffic volumes at night facilitate road side works without any major negative impacts on the community.

TM added that road works at Msida for the upcoming weekend are scheduled to continue at night on Friday and Sunday.

On Friday night, ix-Xatt tal-Imsida (part leading to Birkirkara and part leading to Hamrun Centre/Residential Home for the Elderly) will be temporarily closed for vehicular traffic during works.

On Sunday traffic from Birkirkara will be diverted towards Triq it-Torri, l-Imsida.

TM advised motorists to proceed with caution at sites where works are being carried out, especially at night and to follow road management signage.

Transport Malta is making every effort to ensure that, where possible, road works at arterial and distributor roads are carried out at times which will not disrupt the traffic flow. Nevertheless, in some cases temporary redirection may be necessary and delays may occur. Minor road side works and interventions are also currently being implemented during night at weekends.
