GWU warns Malta Public Transport over break time

GWU warns Malta Public Transport it will name and shame management officials who among others deny drivers from right to have a break

The General Workers’ Union condemned members of the Malta Public Transport’s middle management who are not allowing drivers to take a break during their shifts, which last for eight hours or more.

“Their actions are unacceptable, even more so when the GWU represents the majority of workers. The decisions and actions of these people are putting the GWU at a disadvantage with the intention of favouring another union.”

GWU warned that if these actions do not come to an immediate end, it would name and shame the persons involved.

The union added that as from tomorrow, all affiliated drivers will take their breaks and will demand a meeting with the Spanish company which will take over the public transport service as from January.

Pointing out that it trusted the new operators in not allowing middle management members to damage the GWU, the union said that it looked forward to establishing a optimal industrial relationship with Autobuses de Leon.
