A round-up of the newspaper headlines on Sunday morning.
MaltaToday leads with tomorrow’s budget – in which finance minister Edward Scluna is expected to announce a private-public initiative aimed at addressing hospital waiting lists. The newspaper also reveals that the budget will also scrap the much-maligned eco tax out, and will announced tax rebates for employers.
On the front page, the newspaper reveals an unverified Dalligate email allegedly sent by lawyer Gayle Kimberley to Silvio Zammit – the man accused of soliciting a bribe in the Dalligate affair. The email, which is yet to be exhibited in court by police, could implicate Kimberley in the €60 million bribe allegedly sought to influence tobacco legislation.
Sunday newspaper Illum says the government will enforce the employment of disabled persons, and is also expected to offer incentives to facilitate the integration and employment of the disabled.
In an interview with the newspaper, former Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, is quoted in stating that there is a clear link between the Nationalist Party and Daphne Caruana Galizia’s blogs.
The Sunday Times of Malta says tomorrow’s budget will “wean the young off benefits” and will instead implement a number of measures intended to encourage youths into training or employment.
The Malta Independent on Sunday says health centres will be privatised as the government will issue a call for private companies to take on public health centres on public-private partnership basis.
It-Torca says the budget will implement measures to ensure that people would have more money in their pocket, while the newspaper also quotes finance minister Edward Scicluna in saying that employment rates will increase by 1.9%.
PN news organ il-mument says Malta’s ambassador to Libya recently honoured terrorist and fugitive Mahdi Al Harati when he was presented with a bouquet of flowers during a ceremony in Tripoli.
Kullhadd says the PN did not approach Jesmond Mugliett and Robert Musumeci to re-join the party.
