Bus shelters to depict domestic violence as part of awareness campaign

Five different bus shelter posters in several bus shelters will depict different types of domestic violence as part of an awareness campaign

A ‘bus shelter poster campaign’ with the theme ‘violence knows no gender, sexual orientation and age’ has been launched by the Commission on Domestic Violence, together with Men Against Violence and Rainbow Support Service.  The campaign will run from 17-26 November in Malta and from 23 November-2 December in Gozo.

Five different bus shelter posters will depict different types of domestic violence- from physical and sexual abuse to psychological, emotional and financial abuse, to harassment and stalking.

“This can happen within intimate relationships of any sexual orientation and age, within parent and adult child relationships, as well as between adult siblings,” a government statement said. “Furthermore, among victims of domestic violence one can also find cases of abuse on elderly people, thus the emphasis that domestic violence knows no age.

“Although the prevalence of persons experiencing domestic violence is that of women, domestic violence can affect everyone,” a government statement said. “The focus of this awareness raising campaign is that domestic violence does affect persons irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation and age. Therefore, this campaign calls the general public, especially those persons who are experiencing domestic violence to take a stand and say no to domestic violence.”

The awareness campaign will coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November.
