New equipment for Gozo hospital under EU programme arrives

Part of the equipment for the refurbishment of the Radiology Department at the Gozo General Hospital has arrived this week, and would be installed in the next few weeks.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono made this announcement this morning during a visit to the Radiology Department at Gozo General Hospital, one of the two EU projects financed under the EU’s Cohesion Programme 2007-2013 in Gozo.

She explained how the equipment that had just arrived included that used for digital mammography, the ultrasound unit and the skeletal x-ray unit.

Debono announced that in the next few weeks, the remaining equipment would arrive at the Gozo General Hospital– the CT Scan and the Fluoroscopy unit.

She explained that thanks to the new equipment, the Gozo General Hospital would be offering various new services in Gozo which would lead to less trips for Gozitan patients and their relatives to Mater Dei Hospital as a result.

The EU-financed project at Gozo General Hospital also includes the refurbishment of the second operating theatre in hospital.

The other EU-financed project under the Cohesion Programme 2007-2013 in Gozo is the embellishment of Villa Rundle in Victoria, for which €2.5 million have been earmarked.

The embellishment project at Villa Rundle includes the creation of a recreation area for children, a visitors’ centre, and an open-air stage that can host cultural activities.

Moreover, the project will also include the installation of a new lighting and irrigation system, as well as the installation of new benches and other ancillary facilities that will complement the new look for Villa Rundle.

During the past two months, excavation works that will host the new reservoir that will be used to collect water for irrigating the gardens at Villa Rundle.

Moreover, the old offices as well as the concrete paving have been removed to make way for new paving at Villa Rundle.

The new paving will include a water catchment system and other utilities passing underneath. Moreover, a new office will also be built at a better location.
