Prime Minister Joseph Muscat dodged a question on whether he trusts acting police commissioner Ray Zammit following the home affairs minister Manuel Mallia’s driver shooting incident by saying that he will not undermine the institutions.

“I will not undermine the institutions. We’ll wait fort the inquiries’ results and then we’ll take the decision s which need to be taken,” Muscat said in a fleeting reply.

The saga involving Mallia’s driver Paul Sheehan has been rambling for almost two weeks and yesterday a number of media reports highlighted a number of inconsistencies and alleged tampering of evidence on the scene of the crime.

Sheehan, a police officer detailed to Mallia, shot at least twice at a vehicle following what is being reported as a minor traffic accident.

The opposition is calling for Mallia’s head, who the PN claims has covered up a number of facts in the incident which has dented government’s credibility and overshadowed the 2015 Budget.
