New scheme to incentivise purchase of eco-friendly cars launched

Grants will be given to people who register new cars with low carbon dioxide emission levels.

A new grant scheme to incentivise the purchase of new category M1 motor vehicles has been launched by Transport Malta in conjunction with the Ministry for Transport.

Through this scheme, to which the government has allocated €500,000, a €900 grant will be given to people who register a new car with carbon dioxide emission levels of 100g/km or under and a €700 grant will be given to people who register a new car with carbon dioxide emission levels of between 101 and 130g/km. However, anybody who transfers this car to a third party before a period of three years will be entitled to refund the grant in full.

Applications for this scheme are available from the Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hornsworks Ditch, Floriana or can be downloaded from www.transport.gov.mt. People will only be entitled to one grant under this scheme and Transport Malta will handle applications on a first-come-first-serve basis.
