MEP says Malta losing control of human trafficking situation
Therese Comodini Cachia criticises EU for not having done enough to combat human trafficking in Europe
Malta, along with other European countries, is losing control of an increasingly problematic human trafficking situation, Nationalist MEP Therese Comodini Cachia warned, while calling for urgent action on a European level.
“Europe has not yet treated this problem properly,” Comodini Cachoa told a group of local human rights NGOs. “However, shutting down borders will actually work in favour of human traffickers rather halt them.”
The MEP added that she has proposed amendments to EU law that will strengthen the fight against human trafficking in Europe.
