Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis presented laptops to every lecturer who works at the Institute of Tourism Studies.

“In the past two years, 98% of ITS graduates have found work in the tourism sector,” Zammit Lewis said. “The fact that the Institute now falls under the Ministry of Tourism [rather than the Ministry of Education] had helped improve communication between the Institute, the Malta Tourism Authority and stakeholders in tourism.”

Zammit Lewis spoke of the importance of having professional, passionate workers employed within the tourism sector.

“The government’s policy is to make ITS an institute of excellence in the hospitality sector, contrary to the perception that it is simply catering school,” he said. “We want this Institute to train future tourism professionals. The government, together with the Board of Governors and the ITS management are working on improving ITS, such as by offering new modules and courses, modernizing the facilities, and providing lecturers with the tools they need to teach students.”
