[WATCH] Winter tourism has improved - Zammit Lewis
More local events in the wintertime have helped to keep tourist numbers steady
Tourism in the winter months has improved noticeably this year, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said.
Speaking at the Vivaldi Hotel during the traditional tourism ministerial New Year's Eve visit of hospitality venues, Zammit Lewis also said that more local winter events than usual have taken place this year than in the past years.
"This is in tandem with government policy to spread tourism over the months," Zammit Lewis said.
"The next challenge is to attract more high-quality tourists to Malta. For this to happen, it is not enough for hotels to improve their product, but Malta's infrastructure must improve on a holistic level."
A national 15-year tourism strategy is expected to be launched early next year.
