The Labour Party’s parliamentary group has unanimously approved former health minister Godfrey Farrugia as whip of the PL.

In a statement issued by the party, Labour announced that Farrugia was nominated by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the rest of the Labour MPs approved the nomination.

Farrugia replaces Carmelo Abela who was appointed home affairs minister following Manuel Mallia’s dismissal.

The move is being widely interpreted as Muscat’s way of extending an olive branch to Farrugia, who together with his partner and backbencher Marlene Farrugia have been openly critical of many of Muscat’s decision, especially recently during the Mallia shooting incident.
