Around €1 million in EU funds have been allocated on 19 projects related to the development of rural villages, EU funds parliamentary secretary Ian Bog announced.

The funds fall under the LEADER programme.

Borg said that 10 local councils, a number of NGOs, and small and medium businesses located in rural regions will benefit from this fund allocation.

“The projects will range from social and cultural activities, to infrastructure improvements in favour of sustainable tourism, to another strategic project led by the Gozo Tourism Association aimed at promoting Gozo as a unique destination.”

Borg also said that €7 million will be allocated to the LEADER programme for 2014-2020,  €3 million more than was allocated to it in the previous timeframe.
