The newly approved fuel station will be relocated to the central open space across the road from the existing station.  The fuel station will include the development of a basement level store, a small service station outlet, a car wash facility and a total of four fuel pumps such that eight cars can fill up simultaneously.

Currently situated under residential development, the petrol station has for years been a hazard and inconvenience to residents living in the vicinity and for traffic driving up to San Gwann.

Against a bank guarantee of €60,000, the MEPA Board obliged the applicant that the existing fuel station and its environs are to be decommissioned up to a maximum of 6 months from when the new fuel station starts operations. The Board also restricted the small retail outlet at the new site to only sell products/services which are ancillary to the fuel station. For safety purposes, car will only be able to access the fuel station from the southern end.

Both the Malta Resources Authority and the Civil Protection Department were consulted on the safety aspects of the new site and gave their consent for the project to go ahead.

An outline development permission for this development proposal had been granted in November 2010.
