PN say that Parliament should debate an Opposition motion calling on the government to substantially reduce fuel prices on Thursday
A parliamentary debate calling on the government to substantially reduce fuel prices should be held on Monday, the government said in a statement.
“This is the closest possible day because the Prime Minister will be in Germany on a state visit on Tuesday and Wednesday and several ministers are abroad,” the government said.
The Opposition had earlier called for the debate to be held this coming Thursday.
“The Opposition’s negative attitude in this case contrasts with how, last December, the government had instantly accepted the Opposition’s request for a postponement on a parliamentary debate for the €320 million investment by Shanghai Electric Power in Enemalta because the Opposition leader was abroad.”
The government accused the Opposition of ‘playing puerile games’.
The PN are claiming that Maltese drivers pay the 4th most expensive petrol and diesel out of all the EU countries. They have also called on the government to publish its fuel hedging agreements.
Speaker Anglu Farrugia will give a ruling on when the debate will be held tomorrow.
