50 people charged with prostitution 196 times last year

Home Affairs Minister reveals that 1562 people were charged with domestic violence in past two years

50 people were charged in court with loitering for prostitution in 2014, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela revealed. In total, the 50 accused prostitutes were charged 196 times, with one in particular getting charged 34 times and two getting charged 13 times.

In 2013, 66 people were charged with lotering for prostitution a total of 344 times.

Abela was answering in response to a parliamentary question by backbencher Anthony Agius Decelis.

In response to a separate question by Agius Decelis, Abela said that 778 people were charged with domestic violence in 2014 and that 784 were charged as such in 2013.

In response to a third question, Abela said that seven people were charged  with rape last year and that 13 were charged as such in 2013.
