The discarded monti stalls which were refuted by the public cost €976 each, Economy Minister Chris Cardona informed parliament following a question raised by PN MP Robert Arrigo.
Replying to a supplementary question raised by Opposition whip David Agius, Cardona said the government was seeking alternative use for the stalls.
“The design did not meet the government’s standards and we decided not to use them for Valletta,” Cardona said.
In reality, the government was forced to do away with the stalls – a mix of PVC, metal and wood with red eight-pointed crosses painted on it – after the public outcry.
Cardona also reiterated that the monti will be relocated to Ordnance Street.
