The Gozitan branch of Commcare, the government’s community care regulator, will be strengthened immediately to level up with the service it offers in Malta, Active Ageing parliamentary secretary Justyne Caruana said.

“This service is currently very limited in Gozo but Gozitan elderly people and people with disabilities will not be able to benefit from the same services that are offered in Malta in their own residences,” Caruana said during a visit to the San Lawrenz Residence in Gozo where the government is providing long-time and respite care services to the elderly via a public-private partnership scheme.

“The government plans to continue strengthening services on a community basis,” Caruana said.  “A large percentage of Gozo’s population is older persons and it is therefore crucial that services  are enhanced and strengthened in Gozo too.”
