Conciliatory meeting discusses the behaviour at Hamrun secondary school
MUT and Education Ministry publish joint statement to announce agreements made at conciliatory meeting
A joint statement issued by the Malta Union of Teachers and the Ministry of Education and Employment has announced that a conciliatory meeting took place earlier today between the education ministry, the PACBU and the MUT. The aim of the meeting was to address the inappropriate behaviour of the Hamrun secondary school students.
Throughout the meeting, the various parties aided by the conciliatory board came to an agreement about various points.
The parties agreed that scheduled meeting between the two parties should take place to ensure that the school can achieve its desired reputation. Both parties have also agreed to ensure that teachers’ difficulties are properly identified and addressed.
“We have also agreed that the proper installations are introduced to strengthen security on the premises,” the statement reads.
The parties also agreed that disciplinary action would be taken against students who repeatedly behaved badly at school.
“Furthermore, the parties have decided that the proper and legal actions to be taken against parents who hurdle the educational development of their children, will also be discussed.”
The statement said that meetings between the education ministry and the police would also be held in relation to the latter issue.
Both parties went on to thank the conciliatory board for its commitmentto facilitate an agreement in the issue.
MUT has said that it would like to end its industrial dispute and suspend its planned directives, as the ministry had reiterated its commitment to honouring its agreements.
