582 prisoners in Corradino prison

The Corradino Correctional Facility was home to 582 prisoners as of 31 January 2015, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela revealed.

This is a registered decrease of prisoners

Responding to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Carm Miifsud Bonnici, Abela said that this was a registered decrease of 34 prisoners that were housed in the prison in December 2014.

In response to a separate parliamentary question by the same MP, Abela also noted that the ‘Debtors’ complex, used as a visiting area, had to be closed off due to a lack of prison staff.

“However, we added 64 new full-time prison officers in January, and the complex is once again being used as a visiting area,” Abela said.
