Giovanna Debono denies allegations of impropriety
Former PN Minister for Gozo suggests claims were being made for political purposes
Former PN minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono has categorically denied the allegations being made in her regard in a statement released this afternoon.
The denial comes in the wake of a story released by the MaltaToday which revealed that police were investigating claims that Debono’s husband had used public funds to carry out construction works for her constituents, free of charge.
However in the statement released this afternoon, Debono alleges that the claims were being used for partisan political purposes “and for Joseph Muscat’s ulterior motives.”
“I am making this statement in the light of the fact that the allegations levelled against me are being used politically. I am therefore defending myself and my husband.”
Debono stated that she is willing to repeat her statement under oath and pledged her full cooperation with any investigation.
She ended her statement by suggesting that “rather than pointing his finger at me, Joseph Muscat should look around him and see the fingers pointing in his direction about the Café Premier scandal in which he was personally involved.”
