ELSA Malta launches translator app for legal jargon

A tool translating legal terminology is being provided for the first time in Malta. The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA Malta) today launched an app that offers the translation of legal terms from Maltese to English and English to Maltese.

The launch took place at the University of Malta by ELSA Malta’s President Deo Falzon and ELSA Malta’s Vice President for Academic Activities James Debono.

Falzon said that ELSA Malta recognised that the digital age offered a number of opportunities, including the creation of this app which will fill a void that has been felt for a number of years.

Debono explained that work on this project had started a number of months ago.

“A group of students were involved in helping create this app which includes over 1,000 terms. The concept behind this app rests on two main points,” he said.

“Firstly, the app has the aim of helping law students in the academic sphere and secondly, it has the aim of facilitating translations necessary in the legal industry.”

“As opposed to a printed publication, the app allows for the possibility of increasing legal terms over time.” ELSA Malta explained.

 The app is available for download from all platforms (Google Play and Apple App Store) and can be obtained free of charge.

In the last weeks, ELSA Malta published the fifth edition of the ELSA Malta Law Review.

In summer, ELSA Malta will be welcoming over 70 international law students for a Summer Law School on Maritime Law, while in March 2016 it will be hosting over 500 ELSA members in ELSA’s International Council Meeting.
