[WATCH] Hunter harasses SHout activist ahead of press conference
Mark Sultana calls on public to keep their past experiences with hunters in the countryside in mind when voting in the referendum.
SHout campaign coordinator Romina Tolu was verbally harassed by a hunter while she was waiting for a SHout press conference to commence outside St. Helen’s Basilica, Birkirkara.
MaltaToday is informed that the hunter, an elderly man, approached Tolu, accused her of wanting to abolish his hobby, and asked her where the “English woman” was.
A MaltaToday photographer, who was also awaiting the press conference, stepped in between them. As he raised his mobile phone, the enraged hunter warned him not to record a word that he was saying and raised his fist threateningly.
SHout said that hunters then grabbed campaign flyers and set them on fire.
Addressing the press conference, SHout campaigner Mark Sultana called on the public to keep media reports and their own past experiences in mind when voting in the upcoming referendum.
“The hunters are currently wearing a mask to conceal the truth, that illegal hunters occur during the spring hunting season and that hunters act aggressively whenever things don’t go their way,” he said.
He repeated judge emeritus Giovanni Bonello’s recent condemnation of the Yes campaign as one that is based on misinformation.
“The Yes campaign’s insistence that other hobbies can get banned by future referenda is a myth and a lie,” Sultana said.
The SHout campign, Sultana added, was a positive one.
“We are calling for a positive change- in favour of an improved environment that birds can fly over without any problems, and in favour of a countryside that everyone can enjoy.”
