Dog trainer employed in position of trust ‘because of experience’
Home Affairs Minister says job of dog handler employed on position of trust basis is to train dogs and other dog handlers
A dog trainer has been employed on a position of trust basis by the Ministry for Home Affairs on a position of trust basis because of her “experience in the sector”, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said.
“Her role as a K9 Technical Instructor involves the training of both dogs and other dog handlers, both those who work with the Corradino prison drug-sniffing dogs and those who conduct search-and-rescue operations within the Civil Protection Department ,” Abela said.
He was responding to a parliamentary question by shadow finance minister Mario de Marco, who had also asked Abela to table all the documents related to the dog handler’s employment.
Abela didn’t table the documents but said that she is on scale 11 salary.
An earlier parliamentary question revealed that the dog trainer is one out of ten appointments made by the Home Affairs Ministry on a position of trust basis between 9 March 2013 and 31 January 2015.
