Opposition donates books to Birkirkara primary school
Oppositon leader Simon Busuttil and shadow minister Therese Comodini Cachia visit school to promote literacy
Leader of the Opposition Simon Busuttil visited St. Francis Primary school in Birkirkara earlier today to promote literacy and thank the convent running the school for their constant dedication and support.
Busuttil said that the visit was particularly special to him because the school in question was his childhood school.
"It's a truly unique and special experience to be able to go back to one's educational roots and I have nothing but praise for the nuns, parents and teachers who have contributed and continue to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the school," he said.
Shadow education minister Therese Comodini Cachia added that she believed one of the best things to impart to children was a love of reading.
"We believe reading is the basis of education and we wanted to give these students a love of reading and to show them how fun reading can be," Comodini Cachia said.
During the visit, the Opposition donated a number of Maltese reading books to the schoolchildren who had gathered for a special reading by Busuttil.
Busuttil added that the party was donating 130 books in all, with a large number of them going to the school library so that all students could enjoy them.
