[WATCH] Malta ‘to become a lighthouse’ for technological education – Muscat
Government signs memorandum of understanding with Microsoft aimed at extending and improving the usage of technology in classrooms
Malta could become a “lighthouse country” for educational technology within the next few years,’ Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.
He was speaking at Stella Maris School after the government signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft to extend the usage of IT in classrooms.
“This agreement will help Malta advance a few notches in education,” Muscat said. “However, it’s ultimately an educational project and not an IT one. It’s about using the best-available technology to improve the learning experience.”
Microsoft’s Vice President of Education, Anthony Salcito, said that the agreement aims to close the gap between education and the workplace, promote entrepreneurship, and render Maltese students more employable in other European countries.
“It’s not about technology but about how we can enable children to go to school to achieve a bright future in a world that is increasingly powered by technology,” Salcito said. “Many people think that technology is an easy solution, but it must be accompanied with great teachers who are empowered and inspired by technology.
“We want Malta to become a global lighthouse for the holistic transformation of learning.”
