Minister for sustainable development, the environment and climate change Leo Brincat, announced that next Saturday at 20:30, would mark the International Earth Hour.

“This hour will unite us as a country and with the rest of the world in our struggle towards a better way of life,” Brincat said.

Brincat pointed out that a number of initiatives and activities by various NGOs, artists, commercial banks, local councils and theatrical companies and ministries, would help in order to instill the sense of community on this special day.

The list of activities included the screening of Leonardo di Caprio’s climate change movie The Eleventh Hour on the façade of the new parliamentary building, a concert by sustainable development ambassador  Ira Losco and a flash mob at St. George’s square in Valletta among many others.

Brincat said that these activities were a result of a collaboration with the V18 foundation and that events were being organised at a primary school on the eve of the event whereby students were expected to conduct experiments related to the environment and where the lights would be switched off for an hour.

“Saturday will also see the switching off of various buildings across the island like port de bomb, the ministry for sustainable development, auberge de Castille in Valletta, the Gozo Ministry and the Courts of Justice among many others.” Brincat said.
