Six-year-old Leah Xuereb has passed away after years of battling against a rare form of cancer. Between 2011 and 2012, Xuereb underwent six months of treatment at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in the United Kingdom.
In 2012, her parents made a public fee for money to fund her treatment, and the government ended up paying €245,000 for her to receive treatment at the Anderson Cancer Research Centre in Texas. However, she returned to Mater Dei for chemotherapy treatment in January 2013 and later developed thrombosis. In 2014, Leah stopped her thrombosis medication and her vision improved.
However, she passed away at her home in Ghajnsielem earlier today. Puttinu Cares said that her death was peaceful and expected.
She is survived by her father Jonathan, mother Zhana, and brother Owen.
