Suspected Lebanese terrorist arrested in Sicily while buying a ticket to Malta
A suspected terrorist of Lebanese nationality has been arrested in Pozzallo, Sicily while attempting to buy a ticket to embark on a catamaran that was heading to Malta.
The Lebanese man – identified only by the initials A.H. – was intercepted by the Carabinieri while in possession of a false German passport.
According to a Carabinieri spokesman, the man didn’t want to reveal the reasons why he was on his way to Malta, and how he came into the possession of false German identification documents.
He was reported to be carrying a substantial amount of cash, while the contents of his bag remained unknown.
The Lebanese man has been arrested and will be interrogated in the morning by an inquiring magistrate.
The spokesman said that the Lebanese man was being investigated as a suspected terrorist, given the unlikeliness of him being an illegal migrant travelling southwards when the trend is likely to travel northwards.
Buying a regular ticket and travelling with false documentation also raises further suspicion.
