[WATCH] Gozoworks | 'PN said all it had to say' - Fenech Adami

PN deputy leader says Joseph Muscat 'insulting people's intelligence' by claiming he wants to win council elections by at least one vote, but fails to set PN benchmark

Fenech Adami on Gozoworks: 'PN said all it had to say'

The Labour Party was starting the local councils elections with a 17-point majority and it was therefore "insulting of the Prime Minister" to say he wanted to win the elections even by one vote, PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami said.

Flanked by PN spokesman for local councils David Agius and the candidates for Swieqi, Fenech Adami however failed to explain what benchmark the opposition had set for itself. Of the 26 localities in Malta contesting these elections, only eight currently have a Nationalist majority.

"We are doing our best but it's up to the people to decide. We obviously want to improve but it is insulting of the Prime Minister to give the impression that these were difficult elections for the PL. He is insulting people's intelligence," he said.

Fenech Adami reminded the electorate that they had until midnight today to collect their voting documents and urged them to vote for the PN candidates.

'Joseph Muscat, Anton Refalo mum over Gozoworks'

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Gozo Minister Anton Refalo have become "transparent" over private works being carried out in Gozo by public workers. Fenech Adami, when asked whether he could guarantee that PN leader Simon Busuttil hadn't met the contractor, said the PN "has said all that it had to say" and went on to accuse Muscat and Refalo of keeping mum over "private works being carried out today".

Muscat was yesterday quoted by newspapers as saying that works being carried out in Gozo formed part of a scheme to help farmers. Farmers usually received funds through the scheme but this year the support was being given by means of work.

According to Fenech Adami, Muscat was simply defending the Gozo minister and works carried out include garages and drive-ins: "Adding insult to injury is the fact that works are even being carried out on illegal buildings without a MEPA permit. Joseph Muscat and Anton Refalo have a lot to answer for."

Meanwhile, Muscat has been for the past days arguing that it was Simon Busuttil who had to come clean over the allegations put forward by the Gozitan whistleblower.
