Valletta to get LCD road signage
The Valletta local council intends to install free standing Liquid Crystal Display signage in nine different street corners at Merchant Street and Republic Street. The aim of this project is to remove the cluttering of signage and street directions on street corners in Valletta.
According to the council the new signage system will enhance the visitors’ experience of Valletta as it will provide all the necessary information required to get around the city. All the signs will be placed within pedestrianised streets thus not effecting vehicular traffic.
To ensure accessibility for all a representative of the Foundation for IT Accesibility (FITA) will be appointed on the adjudicating board for the tender selection process to ensure that disabled people benefit to the full from the LCD displays.
MEPA’s case officer has already recommended the approval of the new signage system. But a permit has still to be issued. On Wednesday the board decided to process all nine applications together.
