In the Press: Parliament discusses migrant shipwreck tragedy

The Times of Malta

Parliament has agreed to work in unity over the Mediterranean migration crisis, with the government and Opposition agreeing to set partisan politics aside to work together on a humanitarian issue. Consensus was reached during an emotional parliamentary sitting, the last that will be held in the Palace building.

L-Orizzont

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat warned that more migrants will drown in the Mediterranean Sea, pointing out that 3,500 immigrants had drowned last year while the search-and-rescue mission Mare Nostrum was in operation.

In-Nazzjon

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil reiterated his call for the government and Opposition to work in unity with regards the migration crisis. Busuttil said that saving migrant lives, properly surveying their arrivals, and respecting their dignity should be prioritised.

Former Forum President Paul Pace has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health through which he will head a new nursing school within St. Luke’s Hospital, to be operated by Northumbria University.
