The Conference of Religious Major Superiors (Malta) (KSMR), representing all 29 religious orders in Malta and Gozo said that it expressly supports the Jesuits in their appeal against the construction of a shooting range complex next door to Mount St Joseph Retreat House in Mosta.

“The KSMR supports Jesuits’ appeal primarily because it believes this is a just cause,” the group said in a statement.

“Mount St Joseph Retreat House was built fifty years ago, offering its service to innumerable persons who have visited this place to spend time in silence, prayer and discernment over the years, and it should be left to keep its identity as a retreat house.”

The statement continues by pointing out that the house demonstrates the presence and service of the Jesuits in Malta.

“It was built with enormous sacrifice not only on the part of the Jesuits but also on the part of so many other people, so that Malta would be able to offer a retreat house such as this one, one among the rare and few even though the need for such places is always growing.”
