New NGO to raise LGBTI+ awareness in Gozo
LGBTI+ Gozo launched to raise awareness on equality, sexual orientation and gender identity in Gozo
A group of Gozitan youths have set up a new NGO to work towards a more open and less prejudiced Gozitan society. 'LGBTI+ Gozo', chaired by Eman Borg, will focus on equality, sexual orientation and gender identity.
“Malta has become more open-minded about this issue, and more and more people are starting to feel as though they can express their sexuality and gender identity in the open,” Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli said at the NGO’s launch. “However, a lot of work still remains to tackle certain attitudes towards diversity.
“Today marks another step forward towards ensuring that everyone’s human rights and dignity are respected without any restrictions,” Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said, pointing out that a zebra crossing in Rabat, Gozo was recently painted in the seven colours of the rainbow as part of the United Nations’ ‘Free and Equal’ campaign.
