PN elects its executive committee
Nine women and nine men were elected to the PN’s executive committee last night
The Nationalist Party elected its executive committee last night, for the first time splitting the committee in equal gender representation. Eligible voters were asked to elect nine women and nine men.
The successful candidates are: Ann Fenech, Rosette Thake, Graziella Galea, Amanda Abela, Caroline Galea, Evelyn Vella Brincat, Veronica Perici Calascione, Francesca Zammit and Stefania Pirotta; Jean Pierre Debono, Alex Perici Calascione, Karol Aquilina, Trevor Degiorgio, Hermann Schiavone, Mark Anthony Sammut, Kevin Mizzi, Marco Spiteri and Alexis Callus.
Among those elected, the PN will then choose its secretary general, replacing MP Chris Said who has been appointed shadow minister for Gozo.
Asked whether the party’s leadership favoured a woman for the post, PN leader Simon Busuttil yesterday did not rule out that Said’s successor could be a woman. He pointed out that a secretary general is elected.
Paula Mifsud Bonnici, uncontested for the role, was reconfirmed president of the general council.
Nominations for the posts of secretary general, assistant secretary general, treasurer, international secretary, president of the administrative council and president of the executive committee are now open.
The election will be held within the executive committee on 3 June.
