Annual rate of inflation at 1.59% in April
Figures published by NSO show that the annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index stood at 1.59% during the month of April
According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), in the month under review, the annual rate stood at 1.59%, whereas a year earlier the annual rate was 0.01%.
Figures show that the main upward impacts on annual inflation were recorded in the Food Index with 0.76%, the Clothing and Footwear Index with 0.53% and the Recreation and Culture Index with 0.21%.
According to statistics this was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, garments and toys respectively.
According to figures, the largest downward impact was brought about by the Transport and Communication Index with 0.37%, which was mainly due to a price reduction in fuels.
NSO said that the twelve-month moving average rate was 0.38%.
