International architectural firm Chapman Taylor yesterday unveiled plans for a huge construction project in Qala by mistake. The 220,000 square metre project is still officially being adjudicated by the government. The plan is meant to turn the area into a mixed use project, including a cruise liner terminal, a yacht marina and residential apartments and villas

The Gozo-works whistleblower responds to Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil’s judicial protest saying that the latter was trying to pressure him into changing his testimony. The whistelblower, Joe Cauchi’s allegations have led to the Court case against Anthony Debono, former Gozo minister Giovanna Debono’s husband. Cauchi said that Busuttil’s protest was a mere tool of political propaganda.

The elections for FIFA president are expected to take place today, amidst the crisis which has muddied the global football federation’s reputation. The annual congress began meeting yesterday, after seven football officials were arrested and are being extradited to the US on allegations of fraud and corruption on Wednesday. President Sepp Blatter is hoping to be elected for his fifth term, amid pleas from other figures to resign, but he will be standing for election against one other candidate Jordanian Prince Ali bin al-Hussein.

Government tells the European Commission that the Marsaxlokk tanker poses no risk to the people. The commission will tell the European Parliament that there is no ‘prima facie’ breach of EU laws in the Maltese government’s plans to anchor an LNG tanker in Marsaxlokk bay, however its decision is based on the government’s assertions. The parliament had approved a 3,000 signature petition presented by PN MEP Roberta Metsola to investigate the matter, and if it is unsatisfied by the reply, the parliament may pursue the matter further.
