PN appoints its first female secretary general
With just four votes against, Rosette Thake was elected as secretary general of the Nationalist Party
The executive of the Nationalist Party has elected Rosette Thake as its secretary general, succeeding Chris Said and become the first woman to occupy the post.
Thake, uncontested for the post, garnered 70 votes out of the 74 cast. She pledged to continue working to strengthen the PN’s structures and the party’s communication.
Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this was now the time for the PN to position itself as an alternative to the Labour government.
Thake, 47, has been involved within the PN for the past two years and had been appointed as the president of the first general convention organised by the party last year. She also served on the board of think-tank AZAD and the board that analysed the 2013 election results.
The executive reconfirmed Jean Pierre Debono as assistant secretary general, Karol Aquilina as president of the administrative council, Ann Fenech as president of the executive committee, Alex Perici Calascione as treasurer and Trevor Degiorgio as international secretary.
