In the Press: Maltese man threatened by four Romanian hitmen

A Maltese man who acted as a middleman for a business deal gone wrong involving a Russian firm in 2007 was visited by four Romanian hit men who threatened him and his family and gave him 24 hours to pay €4.2 million. The Romanians were later charged in court and given suspended sentences.

Ministers may be allowed to keep their private practice, if it is ‘in the national interest’, Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar announced yesterday. Cutajar said that if a minister’s private practice serves to safeguard specialisations, he or she will be able to carry both both duties, so long as the practice doesn’t interfere with ministerial duties.
