2,918 pending social housing applications
831 pending applications from single individuals, 993 from two-person families, 592 from three-person families.

The Housing Authority had a total of 2,918 pending social housing applications as of 18 June, out of which 1,004 were applications by single parents. This is a registered reduction from the 3,184 pending applications as of June 2014 and the 3,108 pending applications as of June 2013. However, it is an increase from the 2,559 pending applications as of June 2012, the 2,105 applications as of June 2011, and the 2,285 applications as of June 2010.
The information was tabled in Parliament by Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia in response to a parliamentary question by Labour backbencher Deo Debattista.
Farrugia added that 155 of the current 2,918 applicants who submitted the applications are aged between 18 and 21 years old, 342 are aged between 22 and 45, 1,106 are aged between 26 and 40, 1,027 between 41 and 65, while 288 are older than 66.
831 applications are from single individuals, 993 from two-person families, 592 from three-person families, 318 from four-person families, 126 from five-person families, 33 from six-person families, 17 from seven-person families, seven from eight-person families, and one from a family of twelve.
Farrugia said that 52 people have been granted social housing so far this year, up until 18 June. 182 people were granted such housing in 2014, 179 in 2013, 270 in 2012, and 92 in 2011.
