Contactor's demolition of old house caused structural damage to substation, leading to blackout affecting hundreds of homes and businesses
An Enemalta spokesman has announced that an emergency electricity service is now in place, after hundreds of homes and businesses were affected by a blackout caused by the partial collapse of a sub-station.
Hundreds had been left without electrical power after a contractor, demolishing an old house in Canon Road, Santa Veneral, caused structural damage to the substation building.
The power supply was re-routed through an emergency service at around 3:15pm. The reason for the delay, the spokesperson explained, was that that the substation building had only just been declared safe for technicians to enter.
Consumers may yet experience temporary cuts during the switching from the emergency supply to the grid but the spokesmperson explained that this would be momentary.
