Mizzi dodges question on salary of Water Services’ executive chairman
Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi refuses to provide an exact figure on the salary of Water Services executive chairman William Wait, says that his duties encompass those of both the previous chairman and the previous chief executive officer
Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi refused to provide an exact figure on the salary of Water Services executive chairman William Wait.
Responding to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, Mizzi said that Wait’s salary was “relative” to that of the previous chairman. The answer didn’t satisfy the Opposition benches, with PN deputy leader Mario de Marco asking what it was relative to.
Mizzi responded that Wait’s duties encompass those of both the previous chairman and the previous chief executive officer and that his salary is reflective of that. Responding to a supplementary question by Opposition MP Claudio Grech, he confirmed that Wait’s salary is that of a chairman and a CEO combined.
He refused to answer to a straightforward question by Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi on whether Wait’s salary was close to €75,000 and instead chose to praise the WSC’s management for making a “quantum leap” in its services.
