Foreign Affairs George Vella will be leaving Malta for China on an official visit.

In a statement the government said that the minister would be holding talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. The visit will be aimed on strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries, and also on the implementation of   bilateral agreements and the international political situation in the respective regions.

Cooperation in the international arena and in multilateral organisations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will also be discussed.

Vella will also pay a courtesy call on LI Yuanchao, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, and hold meetings with Ms Zhao Baige, Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, National People’s Congress and Ms XU Lyuping, Vice Minister, International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Vella will also be giving a keynote speech at the China Institute of International Strategic Studies on “Malta: an island of stability in the turbulent waters of the Mediterranean”.
