Police confiscate AD candidate's cannabis plant
Police confiscate cannabis plant from David Camilleri's home, after AD candidate posts Facebook photo of himself holding 'Mary Jane'

Police have confiscated a cannabis plant from Alternattiva Demokratika Gozitan candidate David Camilleri, who had posted a picture of himself and the plant on his Facebook wall.
In a Facebook post, Camilleri had lamented how his plant – who he had nicknamed ‘Mary Jane’ – had been “snatched by unknown assailants”.
However, in a twist of events, Camilleri told MaltaToday that the “unknown assailants” were in fact police officers who had confiscated ‘Mary Jane’ after being alerted to ‘her’ existence through one of his earlier Facebook posts.
Camilleri had earlier posted a picture of himself holding ‘Mary Jane’, who he had expressed his love for.
“She gives me blissful happiness when I am depressed, relief from pain when I am over-tired, friendly when I am pissed off, something to do when I am bored, and an overall goodness and a healthier life,” Camilleri wrote.

Newsbook reported that Camilleri is set to face court charges in the coming weeks, but the AD candidate said that he hasn’t yet been informed of this.
Camilleri received 210 first-count votes at the 2013 general election. In an interview with MaltaToday, he had said that the decriminalisation of drugs for personal use is “absolutely necessary”.
“So many young people in Malta end up with harsh prison sentences for using drugs instead of getting help,” he said.
